CHURCH HISTORY
CONTACTS Welcome to
Dunbar Methodist Church
10 Victoria Street, Dunbar, East Lothian EH42 1ET
Our mission is to go into the world, starting in Dunbar, and make
disciples for Jesus. Everything else is
less important.
We commit ourselves unreservedly to choose the way of Jesus
rather than the way of the
world;
To choose the hard way rather than the easy way.

John Wesley preached here at the Methodist Church in Dunbar on 21 occasions. In his diary entry on May 17th
1770 he wrote “In the
evening I preached at the new house at Dunbar, the
cheerfullest in all the Kingdom.”
Dunbar Methodist Church was erected in 1764 and originally
developed from Moravian roots.
It is the oldest Methodist Church in Scotland, and both John, and his brother, Charles
were Trustees.
The beautiful pulpit and stained glass windows came from St. Giles
Cathedral in Edinburgh although how they ended up in Dunbar is something of a mystery. Was
it because of the spelling error on one of the windows?
